Why Did I Make The Switch To All Natural, Handmade Soap? Here's 4 Reasons...
Making the switch to all-natural, handmade soap wasn’t an overnight decision—it came after realizing how much the products I used every day were affecting my skin, my health, and my families health.
1. Healthier for My Skin
Conventional soaps are often loaded with synthetic chemicals, detergents, and artificial fragrances or even dyes and micas that strip the skin of its natural oils. I noticed that my families skin was constantly dry, irritated, and needing additional moisturizer just to feel normal. Once we started using natural soap—made with real oils, butters, natural clays and essential oils—I saw a noticeable difference. Our skin felt softer, calmer, and healthier without needing anything extra. My kids and husband even have eczema, and once we started on this journey—almost instantly we saw results in calming the eczema and keeping the skin properly moisturized. We were no longer using a product that takes the moisturizing properties away to make the lotion you now have to buy. (Yes, this is a real thing, I'll post more about this a different day!). It just made sense to switch!
2. Simple, Transparent Ingredients
Reading the back of commercial soap boxes felt like decoding a chemistry textbook. Even though I am excellent with chemistry, hence why I make such amazing soaps, I wanted to know exactly what I was putting on my body. Handmade soaps typically have short, recognizable ingredient lists—like olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, lye, herbs, essential oils—which gave me peace of mind.
3. Eco-Friendly Choice
Natural soaps are typically biodegradable and made with sustainably sourced ingredients. Many small-batch makers also use plastic-free or recyclable packaging—good for your skin and the Earth.
4. Aromatherapy & Ritual
Beyond cleanliness, handmade soaps offer an experience—rich scents from essential oils, beautiful textures, and even therapeutic properties. Bathing became less of a chore and more of a relaxing ritual.
To say the least, I wanted to make my families skin happy and healthy again. Instead of trying every product on the shelf that stated "works for eczema" or "for dry itchy skin" and it truly didn't, making it worse even, it was time to do something about it. So I began the journey of making our own soap at home and when I loved the process of making something that truly worked, and helped my family so much, it was time to start sharing that product with everyone!
Next time you go to the store to buy soap, take a moment and read the ingredients. If it looks like gibberish, do you really want to put that on your skin? Choose natural, handcrafted soap, with the superfoods your skin craves—your skin will thank you!
There’s something meaningful about supporting local artisans who pour passion and care into their products. Each bar feels unique and thoughtfully made, unlike the mass-produced alternatives on big-box shelves.
